Auckland from Mt Eden
I liked loving you
and
the look in your eyes
and
everything abstract that made you intransitive
lovely Frankenstein.
A creature without distance
or vague edges
or lines of escape.
A silent prayer spoken upwards
is all it takes
on the dark stairs into the bottom of you;
on the plateau I walk right through.
I spread myself away from your eyes
my arms become thick and unattractive
and the gap in my smile
becomes a gruesome hollow.
I want you to turn away,
I would rather be followed upstairs
by a backless girl.
