Departure for Cause

Snowflakes here fall like all the others.

They may as well be microscopic,

crushed bones. They cannot melt

even if the ground somehow forgives.


I for one am going to miss you.

I watched today's sun at its last hour


of color. You stood on the neighbor's

porch. Their lights came on to greet you,

and the sunset followed you from room

to room, through the foreign household.
