First Song of the Child Soldiers

Decamping Song

Here lies a bicycle. Here lies

A shoe. Here sand or ash or

Fingertips and from your Mama

Comes a tune; sound like water

Rising. Sing with us now:

Who rides bicycle?

Who wears a shoe?

No, we are north and south under

A copper sun soldiers not

Of paper—not who but

What and where and wore.

Here lies a mother

Tongue. Here lies

Your ear.
